Bourbontown Tours opens its tour bus doors to add another great local amenity for those visiting Bardstown’s many tourist destinations

In the past few years, Bardstown, Kentucky has evolved from a quaint, quiet town to a bustling hub of tourism due in large part to the soaring popularity of the bourbon industry.

With the economic impact of tourism growing 12.25 percent in Nelson County from 2014-16, an addition of 38 Airbnb’s, with more planned to open in the near future, and three new distilleries opening this year in Bardstown, co-owners Shannon Spalding and Ron Freeman couldn’t think of a better place to locate their new business, Bourbontown Tours.

“We are thrilled to have Bourbonrtown Tours based in Bardstown,” said Mike Mangeot, executive director of the Bardstown-Nelson County Tourism Commission. Having Bourbontown Tours based here gives our visitors more options to stay in the area, using Bardstown as a hub for their exploration of our beautiful town and state. And, with the addition of more hotels and distilleries planned for Bardstown, timing for a local touring company couldn’t be better.”

“It has been said that Bardstown is the bourbon capital of the world,” said Bardstown native and Bourbontown Tours co-owner Shannon Spalding. “As one of the first towns settled in Kentucky, I can tell you we have a rich history and a lot to offer folks that want to get a real flavor of our town and our state. We design each tour to our guest’s specifications. At Bourbontown Tours, every tour is personal, not a cookie cutter experience.”

The Bluegrass State is a treasure trove for anyone wanting to learn more about Kentucky’s history with the likes of the infamous Jesse James, to its diverse arts scene, thoroughbred industry, artisan craft beer distillers and, of course, lots of bourbon; like Jim Beam, the world’s largest distiller to Heaven Hill, America’s largest independent family-owned distiller to Maker’s Mark and Willet Distillery just to name a few.

“To me, exploring Bardstown and our beautiful state without the benefit of a knowledgeable guide would be like going to the Super Bowl and not knowing anything about the teams playing or the rules of the game,” said Bourbontown Tours co-owner Ron Freeman. “You can have a great time at the game, but did you really get the most out of the experience? We will ensure you not only have a great experience during your time with us, but leave feeling like you got everything you came for and more.”
